Classes in Drama, Dance & Music
Junior classes in rural stage schools focus on storytelling, drama games, songs and many more fun activities which create a fun and imaginative way for young people to learn drama skills. We learn songs and actions to provide acting through song. Senior classes work on storytelling and scene writing. Expression and emotion through text. They also work on published scenes and monologues. They explore drama through different drama games, and improvisation exercises. Mime is introduced. Musical theatre and speech and drama exams are an option for Rural stage school young people.
Technique, posture, balance, stability, and co-ordination exercises are all focused on. Dance routines and technique sequences enable young people to put all their skills together to pieces of music that they know and love. Children will experience many dance genres in class. Working towards a product; children are asked to develop moves/dances based on stories and themes. Characterisation and using facial expressions in performance is also developed.
Participants develop their vocal, aural, and performing skills through song. We explore how rhythm and melody works in our fun vocal warmups. The group and individuals sing songs from popular musicals and begin to learn the basics of music theory. Often combined with a dance routine and scene from a musical, young people showcase a product at Christmas and in the Summer through in-house performances and a big show on the Arts Centre stage.
Testimonies
‘Just to say a huge thank you as the girls are really enjoying their Dance & Drama & loving showing me what they are doing every week. They are also really coming out of their shells and blossoming so thank you. I never thought I'd see the day where they would ask to perform on stage. It's great in so many ways.’
