Exciting news for older teens to get involved in the performing Arts!

Mullingar Youth theatre is the newest performing arts program in Mullingar Arts Centre open to those in TY or above, students will take part in an intensive study of a choice different disciplines of performing arts.

The dance with and movement class with Alika Lynch will provide high quality college level training of movement technique and performance skills. Throughout the course of the class, she will be workshopping towards a dance performance that will take place in the new year. Her goal is to challenge the students with their movement expansion and bring them all on an individual journey of self-discovery throughout their dance. The class will be conducted at a high-quality training level. She will focus on fitness throughout including small Hit sessions during our warm up and body conditioning, this will help with endurance for upcoming performances. The movement will be learning to expand over several genres of dance exploring urban and contemporary styles. We will cover and perform repertoire of a well-known choreographers, learning dance history and the theory behind the movement. The students will be given opportunities to work together or present a solo piece. Alika is looking forward to teaching and challenging hard-working individuals, who want to develop their dance skills and mobility to a higher level, who will push and strive for more.

Acting through song with Siofra O Farrell will be comprised of different elements of musical theatre. Each week, students will explore different skills of performance through song; characterisation, projection, diction, expressing emotion, and using movement in song. Students will build their confidence on stage by practicing a range of performance techniques and will work on group singing, in small groups, duets and even solo pieces. Delving deeper into musical skills, students will use vocal exercises to explore their range, work on breathing techniques, learn rhythm skills and practice some music theory, i.e reading music. The students will demonstrate their abilities in a cabaret-style showcase in December.

Having had extensive experience with both acting performance and tutorage, Daniel Egerton will give you the necessary skills to allow you to expand your performing horizons. Within this class we will look at the actors voice, the actors body and the actors mind; looking at different schools of thought involved in actor training. Looking at movement from the Lecoq school of movement, character exercises from Meisner's school and vocal classes from a variety of different practitioners. With all these and more this class will allow you to be more grounded, centered and focused in the moment as an actor, whether that be on stage or on camera.

Our annual programme also welcomes visiting practitioners and artists who will provide masterclasses in their field. It is a pleasure to announce that Michael Scott - Writer and Theatre Director, Padraic McIntyre - Author and Director, and Anne Griffin - Author will be sharing their knowledge, expertise and passion with our members.
